Over 20 million households are missing out on solar benefits

Solar power offers a huge untapped potential in the UK for cleaner, cheaper energy - despite misconceptions that the country is too cloudy and doesn’t have enough sunshine.

Two thirds (67%) of all UK homes could have at least one solar panel installed on their roof, yet less than 1% have actually bitten the bullet and installed them.

Across the UK, the south east and north west of England are missing out the most, with the highest number of eligible homes that could benefit from solar power. Each of these households could slash their annual energy bills by up to 85% by installing 12 solar panels.

When looking at the UK as a whole, Scotland has made the most progress with solar technology.

Nearly 10 times as many Scottish homes (2.9%) have solar panels compared to just 0.3% in England and 0.5% in Wales. Yet, when we look at the overall number of installations, it’s almost a tie - with 48% of all UK homes fitted with solar panels based in Scotland and 47% in England.
