Earn £670 - a third of the average household energy bill - with solar panels

OVO customers with solar technology in their homes are saving up to £670 a year on their energy bills. With the price cap set at £1,717 a year - this equates to a saving of around a third of the average energy bill.

The latest rise in the price cap means households could pocket around £383 annually, but OVO customers are taking this even further.

Our latest data shows that OVO customers are saving around £670 a year on average by reducing the amount of energy they draw from the grid as well as selling back any of their unused solar energy through OVO’s smart export guarantee (SEG) rate. That’s nearly double the amount of savings compared to the standard energy tariff rates.

Solar power can go even further with a battery install. With special tariff add-ons such as Battery Boost (https://www.ovoenergy.com/battery-boost), which can be added to any OVO tariff, customers can benefit from their battery tech even on days when there is less sun and their solar panels aren’t generating much power. The special tariff add-on automatically tops up customers’ batteries from the grid with cheaper, renewable energy during periods of low demand at just 10p per kWh - up to 58% cheaper than their usual electricity tariff.
